Bio-Medical Redox Imaging Group

Regulation of redox status is important to maintain normal physiological conditions in the living body. Disruption of redox homeostasis may lead to oxidative stress and can induce many pathological conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, and aging. Therefore, visualizing of in vivo redox dynamics at the individual level would greatly contribute to the understanding redox mechanisms and establishment of novel therapeutic strategies and discovering of novel drugs.

The major subjects of our group are as follows:

1. Development of novel redox imaging technique

We have been developed a new Overhauser-enhanced MRI (OMRI) scanner and novel techniques for visualization of tissue redox status and in vivo function such as tissue oxygen and blood volume by magnetic resonance techniques.

2. In vivo analysis of redox status in oxidative stress animal models.

We are clarifying the relationship between disease and redox dynamics using Overhauser MRI system and other magnetic resonance technique (MRI, L-band EPR, X-band EPR etc.)

3. Fused analysis of in vivo redox imaging and metabolomics

Redox imaging technology is useful technique for obtaining biological information because of allowing non-invasive and real-time analysis for lesions with redox reactions. We have developed fused technique of in vivo functional imaging and metabolomics by MALDI-IMS and LC-MS.
